Bethany Ministry Departments

"The future of the world is and will continue to be influenced by the work of our ministry as empowered by the Holy Spirit."

Bethany is actively involved in numerous ministries within the church and the community at large. These ministries are carried out by departments consisting of members of the congregation. We encourage each member, whether recently-joined or long-time, to be actively involved in one or more of Bethany's ministries. Please call the church office for the name of the contact person of the ministry you would like to join. Our ministries include the following:

Worship

Worship assists the clergy in outlining and planning worship services, particularly special services. The Department works with the Fine Arts Group for events such as organ, choral, and other musical presentations. Worship also coordinates the youth acolyte program.

Christian Action and Outreach

This Department serves two functions:

Christian Action coordinates Bethany’s “hands-on” ministries in our local, national, and global communities. These ministries are often accomplished in conjunction with other community ministries and agencies, such as the Christian Community Service Center and Interfaith Ministries. Church members are encouraged to participate in a service ministry to which God is calling them.
Outreach coordinates our congregation’s financial giving through ministries such as the Coastal Plains Area of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the National Benevolent Association.

Membership

Membership plans and conducts events and other activities throughout the year to enhance fellowship within the congregation. The Department works to assimilate new members into the congregation and develops the pictorial Member Directory.

Evangelism

Evangelism coordinates Bethany’s efforts to spread Christ’s Word into the community and to bring new Christians into Bethany. Visitor forums are held to introduce our visitors to Bethany’s church life and to answer questions about the Disciples of Christ. Other coordinating activities of Evangelism include Sunday morning greeters, web site, visitor calling, preparing publicity materials for the local media, and the ALPHA program for examining basic Christian beliefs.

Christian Education

Christian Education plans and coordinates Christian educational materials and activities for all age groups to help them grow in their understanding of God’s Word and His Son, Jesus Christ, and to help them establish a closer relationship with Christ. Ongoing programs include Sunday School, Bible Study, and Youth Groups. Christian Education also plans special workshops and programs, such as Vacation Bible School, Spiritual Gifts Seminars, and the History of the Christian Church. The committee also provides liaison support for the Bethany Christian School.

Stewardship and Finance

Stewardship and Finance oversees the financial management of Bethany. Their primary mission is educating the congregation on what it means to be good stewards of their resources. Additionally, the committee facilitates the annual pledged giving campaign culminating with Consecration Sunday activities to receive and dedicate the congregation’s gift pledges.

Property

Property is responsible for the regular maintenance and capital improvements of the Bethany Christian Church plant to ensure that the plant and its infrastructure provide safe, comfortable, and adequate space and equipment for Bethany Christian Church ministries as well as community groups. Property is also responsible for the maintenance of the in-house computers.
