Sunday School Classes
"The future of the world is and will continue to be influenced by the work
of our ministry as empowered by the Holy Spirit."
- Prisca & Aquila
- The “P.A.” Sunday School Class began in 1946 as the “young
married couples” class, and its members still think of it in this way,
although the membership now includes several single adults. The P.A. class
has been in existence longer than any other class at Bethany, and is Bethany’s
cornerstone of adult Sunday School. In August 1996, P.A. celebrated its 50th
anniversary of ministry and fellowship together. Each week, P.A. sings gospel
hymns followed by a lecture lesson from the Disciples of Christ curriculum.
P.A. is well known for its social get-togethers and the strength of church
leaders from this class. Class is held in room 133 (the Boynton Room).
- Unity
- The Unity Class provides married and single “middle age” adults
an opportunity to discuss both scriptural and current topical aspects of our
faith. Utilizing both prepared curriculum and individual research, the member-led
discussion format always generates new thoughts to challenge and strengthen
our Christian walk. While the conversation can be in-depth, members’
Biblical knowledge ranges from beginning to advanced, and learners at any
level are welcome. Class is held in room 120.
- Seekers
- The Seekers Class is a group of mature, inquiring individuals of various
backgrounds and ages who enjoy an open discussion of the Bible and related
studies. Class is held in room 103.
- Horizons
- The Horizons Class is a diverse community of younger adults who gather weekly
to discuss issues important to our spirituality and growth in Christ. The
class body is service-oriented, enjoys fellowship, and encourages everyone
to openly express his or her views. Class is held in room 211.
- High School
- Bethany high school youth study a variety of topics to help integrate their
faith into their daily lives. Topics include prayer, Bible study, and the
history and beliefs of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Class is
held in room 220.
- Middle School
- Bethany youth in grades 6-8 explore and interpret Bible stories that are
meaningful to the unique experiences of middle school. The youth are encouraged
to develop the practice of regular devotions at home. Class is held in room
220.
- Elementary School
- School-aged children through fifth grade continue their study of the Christian
faith through a Bible story-based curriculum with learning activities that
involve all of the senses. Class for grades K-2 is held in room 259. Class
for grades 3-4 is held in room 251.
- Pre-School
- Classes of learning and play are provided in which preschoolers are taught
Bible stories in ways that encourage them to receive and respond to God’s
love. Class is held next to the nursery.
- Nursery & Two-Year-Olds
- A full nursery, with both professional and volunteer staff, is provided
for infants and toddlers. A separate room and staff provide Bible stories
and supervised play for two-year-olds. The nursery is located in room 150.
